Titans United: Bloodpact #1 is published by DC Comics, written by Cavan Scott and illustrated by Lucas Meyer, colours by Tony Avina and letters by Carlos M. Mangual.

Issue #1 is available 20th September either directly from DC Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

The Titans are back, united against a common foe…aren’t they? All seems lost when Tim Drake wakes, out of uniform and seemingly out of time. Surely he was just fighting alongside Nightwing, Superboy, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Donna Troy? But where is Raven and what links her to the Fearsome Five? A blood sacrifice is coming that will change the world forever.

    Review

At the beginning of this issue see a confused Tim Drake waken in an unfamiliar place and with a vague idea who he is, but how did he get there?

We are taken back to a battle between the Titans and the Fearsome Five who have stolen the powerful bloodstone from The Gotham City Museum but the Five are just the couriers someone else wants to get their hands on the stone, the Titans must protect the stone and keep it out of the hands of evil however that would normally be a straightforward battle but this is battle on another level, normally youd have good money on the Titans coming out on top but something about this fight is different there’s another power that’s grabbing hold and it’s getting considerably darker. The Titans manage to get the slight advantage when Raven confronts this demonic being but everything changes and it could well be for the worse.

The story I felt was well written and balanced Cavan Scott did a good job at building the tension to an intriguing climax that leaves the reader waiting for more. The story doesn’t feel rushed it gradually builds to it’s climatic point naturally building and evolving the story as it goes.

The illustrations from Lucas Meyer are great and have that signature DC style that fans of the brand enjoy, dark and dramatic tones that resonate with the story combining to create an immersive reading experience.

    Verdict

A solid start to this latest Titans arc, Cavan Scott has laid a set of foundations which has certainly left me wanting more. Can’t wait for issue #2.
