Synopsis
The DC event of 2022 continues! Thomas Wayne’s investigation into the Clockwork Killer goes sideways when he is confronted by a deadly alien invader the world knows as…Project: Superman? But what’s happened to the Kryptonian and Krypton in the World of Flashpoint? Will Thomas Wayne do what he has to in order to stop Superman-or has he changed? And what are those strange earthquakes now erupting across reality?
Review
In this issue we see Thomas Wayne (Batman) putting his investigation into the Clockwork Killer to one side as a more pressing matter arises in the form of Project Superman and the potential invasion of Earth from the planet Krypton, potentially changing the shape of the multiverses as we know it. In a reluctant conversation Superman tries his best to put to one side any ill feeling between the heroes to work together to save humanity, but Batman is not convinced and wants to put his focus on his mission at hand. If the threat of the end of humanity wasn’t enough there is also an anomalie in the sub space between the multiverses, this could potentially change the DC multiverses as we know them and could it really be all down to Thomas Wayne?.
The writing of this book comes from a talented team Tim Sheridan, Jeremy Adams and Geoff Johns who combine their efforts to create a story that is action packed from the start but is definitely one for the more thinking type of reader as there is alot of potential information to take in for the bigger picture of the main event. For me personally I am enjoying seeing iconic characters telling a slightly different story to what I am normally used to creating a bit of a different vision and the way we potentially look at the DC Universe as a whole.
The illustrations Xermanico Mikel Janin supply brings a deeper and dark reality to the intense story with vibrant colours and refined detail giving the reader plenty to look at throughout the panels.
Verdict
This issue feels like the calm before the storm, yet essential to the overall arc and still keeping a strong sense of tension throughout. The Thomas Wayne arc is gathering pace and has the potential to one of the biggest story events in DC, I am definitely excited to see what the story arc has in store for the readers going forward.
