Review
My favourite type of film genre has to be action and more often than not it’s the ones that take very little thought to enjoy that I like the most, a more beer and pizza movie if you will. From the moment I saw the trailer Message Man seemed to tick all the right boxes for me and I couldn’t wait to give it a full watch.
The film centres around Ryan Teller (Paul O’brien) a retired assassin who tries to live a quiet life living on a boat and living like a normal person. But as you may have guessed living the quiet life just isn’t going to happen for Ryan as he befriends a young Indonesian boy and his family, things rapidly turn for the worse when the boy and his sister are kidnapped by pirates and a wealthy business mam surfaces from his past putting a bounty on his head taking the film down a very dark path indeed.
The film eventually is a brutal thrill ride, it takes a while to get going as it builds on it’s foundations, however when it does get going grab on to your seats as it takes you on a thrill ride like no other full of raw emotion, passion and revenge this story is a gorefest that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
This is the first film I have seen from director Corey Pearson and I felt that he has got it right with this one, although slightly edging on the predictable with the storyline it had me gripped throughout and I personally thought that casting Paul O’brien as the main character was a perfect choice, he played the quiet action hero part down to a tee.
Verdict
A slow starter which builds to an edge-of-your-seat wild journey.
