We’re just over a month away from witnessing the biggest and most destructive rematch in history. Godzilla vs Kong is set to premiere on HBO Max and in theaters on March 26th. Despite numerous trailers and posters, it is still rather difficult to work out what actually happens in Godzilla vs Kong. The only thing we really know is that Godzilla and Kong will fight numerous times. However, after some various set visits back in 2019, we finally have some more information regarding the upcoming clash.

Before we continue, there may be some slight spoilers ahead. There isn’t anything that will spoil the film, there’s just a lot more context which helps answer a few question. Bearing in mind that we still have a dozen questions. But if you’d rather go in blind then we definitely recommend that you stop reading from this point.

    So, what did we learn?
    • Godzilla vs Kong is set roughly Five Years after the events of King of the Monsters.
    • The world knows that monsters exist but according to executive producer Alex Garcia “They aren’t roaming around, destroying things, but they exist; there are occasional landings, issues, and bouts of destruction.”
    • The world places various safeguards and defense mechanisms to protect themselves. The evil corporation Apex helps rebuild but they are described as a “megalithic, technological conglomerate”.
    • Godzilla begins attacking random cities and facilities, supposedly at random. But we know better, and so does Madison.
    • Madison works with Josh (Julian Dennison) as well as former Apex technician Bernie Hayes (Brian Tyree Henry) to learn why Godzilla is acting so erratically.
    •  “[Madison] believes he is not necessarily benevolent but what Godzilla wants is also good for mankind, and there must be some reason he’s doing this,” says Garcia.

    • Kong is now roughly 350-feet tall and Godzilla is 400-feet.
    • Kong will apparently be quite weathered. “It is a tough existence on Skull Island,” says Garcia.
    • According to Garcia, Kong will have some tricks up his sleeve.
    • There is a “massive third act battle.”
    • The Hollow Earth will be heavily explored thanks to vehicles called HEAVs (Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicles).
    • “[They] find, in the center of the earth, an ancient site that suggests eons ago, there was a balance between humans and creatures, and a kind of reverence … a greater connection” he adds. “With Kong, he is the last of his kind, and in Hollow Earth, there is hope he will find another; he discovers these environments and ancient evidence of other Kongs, but there aren’t any.”
    • The Hollow Earth will unearth some ancient discoveries as well as provide “a deeper backstory to the characters.”
    • King Ghidorah still haunts the film thanks to the presence of his 60-foot skull that will be wired to some sort of control station.
    • Production designers Tom Hammock and Owen Paterson watched 30 Godzilla movies and all 7 Kong movies in preparation.
Don’t forget to check out the epic trailer for Godzilla vs Kong.

So there you have it. As previously mentioned, the onset scoop only answers a few questions about the film. there’s still so much that we don’t know and we’re hoping that it stays like that until the official release. While Mechagodzilla has seemingly been confirmed thanks to action figure leaks and a possible appearance in the trailer, we can only imagine the overwhelming feeling of seeing him on screen. Especially if that surprise isn’t ruined in its entirety. Godzilla vs Kong promises to be an epic ride full of action, history, shocks, and Kaiju magic. With only a month to go, we can barely contain our excitement.

Godzilla vs Kong is set be released on HBO Max on March 31st. Hopefully, we can all enjoy this spectacle on the big screen. There’s still no news on how we’ll be able to watch it as of yet. Our hope is that we’ll receive more information closer to the HBO release date.
