Fans of FromSoftware’s highly praised game Sekiro can get hyped now that Crunchyroll has officially announced that Sekiro: No Defeat will begin streaming worldwide in January 2027. Produced through a collaboration between KADOKAWA, Qzil.la, and ARCH, the fully hand-drawn anime adaptation brings the dark, visceral world of Sengoku-era Japan to life as an expanded eight-episode series.

While the story was initially adapted into a feature film that recently screened in Japanese cinemas, the upcoming streaming release will expand significantly on that footage. Fans can expect an eight-episode story that includes additional content not seen in the cinematic version.
Sekiro: No Defeat got early praise during its premiere at Annecy’s “Feature Films: Midnight Specials” program, followed by a celebrated North American debut at the Fantasia International Film Festival. Originally slated for a limited three-week run in Japan, overwhelming public demand has prompted cinemas to extend its screening schedule indefinitely.
To capture the game’s distinctive atmosphere and demanding action, the production assembled a stellar creative team. Director Kenichi Kutsuna leads the project alongside screenwriter Takuya Satou and character designer Takahiro Kishida. Shunsuke Fukui serves as deputy director, with Kaito Moki overseeing the visual fluidity as chief animation director and Takashi Mukoda driving the intensity as action animation director.
The aesthetic and sonic atmosphere of Ashina is rounded out by art director Yuji Kaneko, color designer Azusa Sasaki, cinematographer Keisuke Nozawa, editor Yoshinori Murakami, sound director Yasushi Nagura, and composer Shuta Hasunuma. Bringing the central dynamic to life, the primary voice cast features Daisuke Namikawa as the loyal shinobi Wolf, Miyuki Satou as Kuro, and Kenjiro Tsuda lending his command to the formidable Genichiro Ashina.
The original Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice game developed by FromSoftware was released on PlayStation 4, Windows and Xbox One in March 2019 and went on to sell over 10 million copies globally.
