Well, we certainly didn’t see this coming at all. After speculation regarding a new trailer proved to be right, Godzilla fans were treated with a brand new official trailer for the upcoming Godzilla: Minus Zero which arrived in all of its glory, filled with new footage and plenty of Godzilla.
Here’s the twist… Godzilla won’t be the only Kaiju in this movie. Whilst we don’t see another one of Godzilla’s iconic enemies, we do hear a very familiar sound that confirms that Godzilla will be in for the fight of his life. Yellow lightning and a haunting shrill can only mean one thing… King Ghidorah. Monster Zero will go head-to-head against Godzilla, and most likely the humans who are trying desperately to eradicate Godzilla. Think of it as an “enemy of my enemy is my friend” situation.
Now, we don’t know much about this world. Godzilla appeared like an isolated anomaly, so the arrival of a second kaiju is actually quite a surprise, especially with it being Ghidorah. We have no idea how Ghidorah fits into this picture yet and honestly… the less we know and see, the better. This film has done an amazing job so far at teasing us, so the best thing they can do is hide Ghidorah from us. As much as we want to see his design, imagine witnessing his arrival in IMAX for the first time with no warning or sneak peak look. You can insert that Martin Scorsese “absolute cinema” meme in right now.
There’s a lot to unpack in this trailer including some teases towards the mysterious plague that was teased at the end of Minus One, we still have no clue what it means but it is definitely an integral part of Kōichi Shikishima and Noriko Ōishi’s story. The human cast were very much at the heart of Minus One and while we hope that doesn’t diminish in anyway, it is going to be incredible seeing more Kaiju action.
