It was a battle of two cinematic giants overnight as Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another took on Ryan Coogler’s Sinners at the Academy Awards. Ultimately it was Paul Thomas Anderson who came out on top as the film picked up the coveted Best Picture and Best Director awards.

In total the political thriller – released by Warner Bros. Pictures – picked up six awards including Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing and the brand new Achievement in Casting awards.

Sinners – also a WB release – picked up four awards including a triumphant win in the Best Actor category for star Michael B. Jordan. Writer/director Ryan Coogler may have missed out on the directing award but did pick up the wind for Best Screenplay.
