DC Universe pulls STARGIRL teaser

It seems that DC Universe jumped the gun on Saturday with the release of a teaser trailer for Stargirl. The short teaser featured a brief voice over from lead actress Brec Bassinger and closed with our first footage of the character in full costume.

The teaser was shared on the DC Universe social media channels but has now disappeared without context. With the character set to debut during the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover it seems that perhaps the DC Universe team got a little over excited and released the teaser ahead of time.

It was recently confirmed that the series will premiere it’s first season on DC Universe with episodes airing on The CW the day following release.

The show stars Brec Bassinger in the title role. Luke Wilson is playing S.T.R.I.P.E., alongside Joel McHale (Starman), Lou Ferrigno Jr. (Hourman), Henry Thomas (Dr. Mid-Nite), and Brian Stapf (Wildcat). Neil Hopkins (Sportsmaster), Joy Osmanski (Tigress), and Nelson Lee (Dragon King) will portray members of the Injustice Society.

November 21, 2019 (Burbank, CA) – The highly anticipated DC Universe series STARGIRL will now have an exclusive linear window on The CW Network, which will broadcast each episode the day after its debut on the DC Universe digital subscription service. The new DC Super Hero drama series, starring Brec Bassinger in the title role, is set to make its premiere on DC Universe in second quarter 2020, with new episodes released weekly on the first-of-its-kind digital experience.

Additionally, every episode of STARGIRL will be available to stream on The CW’s free digital platforms, following its broadcast on The CW Network, throughout the season.  Under The CW’s new digital strategy, viewers will be able to stream STARGIRL from the beginning at any point throughout the season on CWTV.com and The CW app – free, with no subscription, login or authentication required, and fully ad-supported.  After the season finale of STARGIRL, the full season will be available to binge on The CW’s digital platforms.

The new DC Universe drama series STARGIRL follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (series star Brec Bassinger, “Bella and the Bulldogs,” “School of Rock,” “The Goldbergs”) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.

The series focuses on the character that started creator Geoff Johns’ career as a comic book writer when he created her in 1999, lovingly inspired by his late sister who was killed in a 1996 plane explosion.

Geoff Johns (“Arrow,” “Batwoman,” “The Flash,” “Titans”) serves as showrunner as executive produces STARGIRL with Melissa Carter (“Queen Sugar”), who serves as co-showrunner, as well as Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Based on the characters from DC created by Geoff Johns, STARGIRL is produced by Berlanti Productions and Mad Ghost Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

STARGIRL stars Brec Bassinger, Luke Wilson, Amy Smart, Trae Romano, Cameron Gellman, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Meg DeLacy, Neil Jackson, Jake Austin Walker, Christopher James Baker and Hunter Sansone.

Premiere night to be announced at a later time.

The show stars Brec Bassinger in the title role. Luke Wilson is playing S.T.R.I.P.E., alongside Joel McHale (Starman), Lou Ferrigno Jr. (Hourman), Henry Thomas (Dr. Mid-Nite), and Brian Stapf (Wildcat). Stargirl (DC Universe/Warner Bros.)

STARGIRL to debut during CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS

Earlier today we learned that Stargirl will be pulling double duty between DC Universe and The CW in 2020. The series will debut each new episode on the DC streaming service, with episodes then airing on The CW the following day.

Now an extra detail surrounding Courtney Whitmore’s introduction to the DC live-action world has been revealed.

Buried in Business Insider’s report on the latest developments it is mentioned that the Stargirl character will be introduced briefly in the upcoming Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover. The five-part event covers all the Arrowverse shows including Arrow, Batwoman, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow.

Brec Bassinger is set to appear, albeit briefly, in the huge event in scenes which reportedly give context to where the character fits in to the wider live-action DC universe.

The show stars Brec Bassinger in the title role. Luke Wilson is playing S.T.R.I.P.E., alongside Joel McHale (Starman), Lou Ferrigno Jr. (Hourman), Henry Thomas (Dr. Mid-Nite), and Brian Stapf (Wildcat). DC Universe’s STARGIRL to air new episodes via The CW following streaming premiere

It’s been rumoured for a while now that DC Universe’s Stargirl would have an unconventional premiere. The series has been pushed back on a number of occasions with recent rumours pointing to the show leaving the streaming service to air on The CW.

But late last night multiple trades began to report that the series, produced by Geoff Johns, will instead split its duties between DCU and The CW.

The series will debut in Q2 of 2020 with new episodes first airing on the DC Universe streaming service. Those episodes, possibly edited versions for TV purposes, will then air the following night on broadcast TV in North America.

The show stars Brec Bassinger in the title role. Luke Wilson is playing S.T.R.I.P.E., alongside Joel McHale (Starman), Lou Ferrigno Jr. (Hourman), Henry Thomas (Dr. Mid-Nite), and Brian Stapf (Wildcat). Neil Hopkins (Sportsmaster), Joy Osmanski (Tigress), and Nelson Lee (Dragon King) will portray members of the Injustice Society.
