After a cracking episode last week with ‘Listen’ (reviewed here!) this week ‘Doctor Who’ ventures off in to space for a distinctly Earthly tale on a far away planet at the Bank of Karabraxos. Guest starring Keeley Hawes, Jonathan Bailey and Pippa Bennett-Warner the episode is another big change in content from the previous episode and is our first truly out there space mission for the new Doctor. Capaldi has now had an adventure set in Earths past (‘Deep Breath’), a adventure featuring Daleks (‘Into the Dalek’), an adventure co-starring a literary hero (‘Robot of Sherwood’) and a chilling scary tale (‘Listen’) so…

Edging closer towards the November ‘Spider-Verse’ onslaught Marvel is continuing to use companion books to setup the major players in the story, this week brought us ‘Edge of Spider-Verse’ #1 which focuses on the backstory of Spider-Man Noir. Like many my first introduction to Noir was via the ‘Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions’ video game which had a similar dimension hopping story to that which is beginning to…

This week ‘Doctor Who’ went back into creepy territory with its fourth episode ‘Listen’ and it did it in great style. This is by far the high point of the season so far with Capaldi brining so much uniqueness to the role that by the end we were nearly saying ‘Matt who? David what?!’. The story of  ‘Listen’ became a little convoluted at times: were we learning about Danny Pink? Was it a tale of the Doctor? Was it Clara’s story? But actually it was a little bit of all of them. Moffat has crafted a brilliant, mature story which…

I’ve been out of action on ‘Spider-Man’ comics for a while, pretty much since Otto Octavius took over the body of Peter Parker and allowed Peter to die inside his own failing body. It wasn’t the actual story or the removal of Peter Parker from the continuity, it was more that I was feeding off my own excitement around ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ movies and wanted to read some great Peter Parker stories and that…

Following up from a very solid issue #1 (reviewed here!) Pfeifer and Rocafort are back with a second issue which continues to push the concept of heroes in a social media world whilst upping the stakes for the titular heroes. As I picked up on a scene which I felt was unnecessary at the end of issue #1 pushing the LGBT aspect of the title a little too obviously…

After a successful transition from Nightwing to Agent 37 in issue #1 (checkout our review here!) With my review of issue#28 (here) I talked about how the writers of this book have almost written themselves into a complicated time travel, alternate future corner which is going to be incredibly difficult to write their way out of. Now here we are discussing issue #29 and the writers are beginning to do exactly that by moving the story in to a final conclusion in the battle with young Xavier’s Brotherhood first introduced in the ‘Battle of the Atom’ arc. What the writers…
