Following last nights announcement that Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell have joined the cast of Birds of Prey talk has turned to who will play the movies villain. This morning we’re hearing rumours that Sam Rockwell has passed on the role. A role being tipped as a Gotham crime lord and which we are hearing is none other than Black Mask. With Rockwell out of the picture rumours from journalist Justin Kroll point towards the studio looking for a bigger name to take on the role. The newly rebooted Hellboy is on the move. The movie was originally due for release in January 2019 but will now premiere three months later, in April. Next month Hellboy will finally be unveiled at a special panel being held at this years New York Comic Con. It’s expected that the panel will feature the first look at footage from the movie. The movie will now arrive in cinemas on April 12, 2019. That puts it squarely in the sights of DC Film Shazam! which arrives one week earlier. The Late, Late Show with James Corden has just started in the US but tonights episode opened with a bang. As James introduced his guests he discussed Sophie Turner’s appearance in the new movie. The CW has unveiled the title of this years Arrowverse crossover and it is “Elseworlds.” The event which begins on December 9 and runs for three consecutive nights will see the debut of Ruby Rose as Batwoman and also Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. The episodes will also see the return of Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman. To announce the title The CW has released a new, updated version of the teaser image. Note the updated Bat-logo. Well this isn’t a surprise. Following the earlier trailer leak 20th Century Fox has confirmed the first trailer for Dark Phoenix is coming overnight tonight. The trailer will be shown first in North America during The Late Late Show with James Corden and premiere online shortly thereafter. In announcing the trailer release we also got the first poster for the movie. This striking image of Jean Grey in silhouette features the trademark “hidden” X in the background. Following yesterday’s announcement that the film will be released in February 2020 we now have some exciting casting news for Birds of Prey. Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. has cast Mary Elizabeth Wanstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) as Helena Bertinelli/Huntress and Underground star Jurnee Smollett-Bell at Dinah Lance/Black Canary! The trade confirms that Batgirl will not appear in the movie (we’ll update the banner eventually). Interestingly the piece notes this is a Gotham with no sign of Batman. A couple of weeks ago we heard that writer-director Matt Reeves had handed in his first draft script for The Batman. Now reporter Umberto Gonzalez has a small update on Warner Bros. thoughts on the project. According to Gonzalez’s sources Warner Bros. are extremely happy with the script. He goes as far as saying that executives “love” the work that Reeves has turned in so far. For now it’s said that Reeves is working on some revisions.
