We’ve had some exciting updates regarding Amazon Studios’ endeavour to bring the world of Warhammer 40K to the small screen. With Henry Cavill being a huge fan of the hobby and its vast mythology, the actor has become incredibly invested and involved in the various projects brewing. Today, the actor took to Instagram to share some incredibly cool developments, so let’s take a look at what is happening.
The Animated Series
Yes, an animated series is indeed in the works. Acting as a spinoff to the Secret Level episode Warhammer 40K: And They Shall Know No Fear which centered on the Space Marines, the animated series is rumoured to be based on a specific type of Space Marine known as The Deathwatch. This elite group specialises in neutralising alien threats- notably the Tyranids.
The series is being co-created and directed by Dave Wilson (Secret Level) with John Orloff serving as a co-creator. Cavill himself is also on board as an executive producer alongside Tim Miller (Secret Level‘s creator) and Natalie Viscuso.
The Live-Action Series
Games Workshop and Amazon Studios have enlisted accalimed horror director Mike Flanagan to help bring the universe to life. The director will write the Warhammer 40K live-action series The actor confirmed that early story work has commenced, and that both Cavill and Viscuso are heavily involved in the process.
As a new fan of the world, it’s great to see how passionate Cavill is about the work being done at Amazon Studios. However, we were all left with one burning question… Will Henry Cavill be starring in this ambitious project. Well, we have our answer.
“Importantly, some of you have been asking if I will still be starring in the lead role in the live action TV series – rest assured, I most certainly will! Who that character is, however, shall remain a secret for now!
So, Cavill will be in the show (yes!), but it is currently unknown who he will be playing. We’re somewhat new to the Space Marine landscape and its wide mythology, so for us it’s almost impossible to guess. However, we’re certain that die hard fans who really understand the lore will have their own predictions already.
That’s all we know so far, but what we have is incredibly exciting and promising. As always, we’ll keep you posted on any updates and since multiple projects have now been confirmed, it’s likely that we won’t have to wait very long for more news.
If you’re new to Warhammer 40K, don’t worry. You’re certainly not alone. As avid fans of the hobby, we highly recommend checking out the various armies across Warhammer and Warhammer 40K, whether it be Space Marines, Tyranids, Necrons, Orcs or Chaos Daemons. There’s something for everyone. You can simply start off by painting the models and then test the waters in regards to the game itself. Once you begin to understand what Warhammer has to offer, you’ll be swarmed by some of the coolest mythologies, characters, creatures and universes. From that point, it’s a dangerous rabbit hole consisting of continuously second guessing which army to go for and having a mountain of books to read.
