Here we are folks, the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer has dropped from Marvel Studios. No longer just the short teasers, but a full length story trailer and there is a lot to unpack here! So we’re breaking down all the biggest moments, reveals and Easter eggs. But before we do, why not watch that brilliant trailer one more time first…

We open to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters and the first lines of Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom saying the following

“Something’s coming, something we may not be able to detur, before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision.”

While he says this, we’re shown a blinding light in the sky, blasting through the windows of the mansion causing Professor Xavier (Sir Patrick Stewart) to look away. We then see a close up of Doctor Doom in what looks to be the courtyard of the Mansion as you can see the fountain in the background.

We then have the classic Marvel logo before going to the newly rebuilt Avengers Tower with the New Avengers crest on the outside. With Thor now narrativing.

“I’ve fought with many warriors in my time, no far stronger than all of us put together, and they died. They died facing enemies and threats that scared me far less than this one. Everything that they sacrificed will be for nothing if we do not stand together. Put aside your petty squabbles and presume nothing except this,if we return we will return as brothers and sisters. But mark my words, we’re going to need a miracle”

During this rousing speech we then see the Fantastic Four arrive along with Thor himself, whey they meet the new Captain America (Anthony Mackie) along with the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Ant Man (Paul Rudd) before seeing a larger shot of the same room we saw previously at the end of Thunderbolts.

In here we see John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Yelena (Florence Pugh), Bucky (Sebastian Stan) and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) on the left hand side. Mr Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), the Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), the Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) taking the middle section and then we have Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Captain America (Antony Mackie) along with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on the far right. It’s presumed this is where he is giving this speech though I’d be more inclined to believe it’s after everyone’s rough encounter with the X-Men.

Elsewhere we’re then shown a similar scene previously seen in the teasers but now with some subtle amendments. We have a glammed up Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejia) on a throne in a meeting with the new Shuri / Black Panther (Letitia Wright) along with the Dora Milaje and M’Baku (Winston Duke). This is a continuation of the previous trailer as you can see The Thing is also with them along with Sue Storm.

If you look to the far left you can also find Walker, Falcon (Danny Ramirez), The Winter Soldier and Ghost as they’re all caught up in the Talokan people as they ready their weapons for attack.

We then jump to Thor arriving in a damage heavy location, the statue within shot, along with what looks to be a sentinal leg in the background suggests this is Thor dropping in on the X Men Mansion ready to throw down against Doctor Doom who we see later. As Stormbreaker begins to emit lightning as Thor approaches Doom, we cut through some scenes of chaos erupting within the mansion.

Cyclops (James Marsden) steps out of a doorway, dressed as his 90’s cartoon counterpart, his eye’s ready to launch into a fight. Next we have Gambit (Channing Tatum) duking it out with Shang Chi (Simu Liu) in an epic choreographed fight with glowing rings and cards all over the place.

We jump to Loki (Tom Hiddleston) holding his TVA card, looking troubled about something, most likely how to handle the incoming nightmare.

We jump back to Black Panther and M’Baku meeting The Thing, Sue Storm, Bucky, Falcon and Ghost in the dessert space previously seen in the teasers. Only this time we can see a wall of water surrounding it. It’s heavily suggested that this is Sue’s work as her powers have undoubtedly grown since the first Fantastic Four film.

We jump again back to the X Men Mansion as we now see Mr Fantastic, Herbie and Yelena getting ready to fight. If you look closely, you can even see Captain America behind Yelena, being held back by Reed’s extended arm as well as who I think is Falcon possibly behind Reed. She faces off against Mystique who shapeshifts into Yelena but with blue eye liner as they duke it out.
We fade to Professor Xavier and Magneto (Sir Ian Mckellen) looking like they know what they’re about to lose. Magneto looking incredibly frail as the pair hold hands.

A brief shot of Ant-Man kissing his daughter Cassie’s (Kathryn Newton) forehead as they too are more than liekly aware that this could be the end of the road for everything. Next jumping to Johnny Storm holding who I believe is Franklin Richards with his short blonde hair, last seen in the post credit scene for Fantastic Four. They’re engulfed in a bright glowing space though it’s not fire as it’s moving slowly. Johnny is looking roughed up as well.

Next we see Sue Storm in his new outfit, in the sand/water area, nodding to Shuri who does the Wakanda Forever salute before jumping right back to the X Mansion with Captain America briefly in shot before a wide shot of Gambit slamming his staff into ground, surrounded by Captain America, Mystique, Yelena, Mr Fantastic and Shang Chi with the feedback knocking everyone back.

The iconic shot of Cyclops concussive blast going full power into the air as he looks distressed, a shot of Sue Storm looking distressed using her powers and Namor in the same space flying around.

Then we have the major shot of the trailer with Thor going full power into Doctor Doom, Stormbreaker in hand as he slams it down to strike him. Learning his lesson from his battle with Thanos in Infinity War. But unlike Thanos, Doctor Doom does not flinch and is able to stop Thor’s attack with merely two fingers, like it was no effort at all.

The final shot, Thor is confronted by his old friend Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), who convinces Thor of who he really is by summoning Mjolnir straight from his hand and back to his. A shot that would have been truly incredible if they were able to keep Chris Evans’ return a secret until now.

OK so that’s the breakdown, now for my theories!

    Theories and Ideas

It’s pretty crazy how we’re shown all of this footage and still be left confused on how it all comes together in one singular movie.

I believe the Thor monologue we get in this trailer takes place after the X Men/Avengers where Thor loses against Doctor Doom in the courtyard. It feels more apparent to say such things like “put aside your petty squabbles” rather than when they all meet in the Avengers tower for the first time.

I also believe Doctor Doom’s opening lines are directly tied to the post credit scene of Fantastic Four, Franklyn Richards will inevitably play a large role in the upcoming events, most likely to be used to help create Battleworld for Secret Wars and perhaps Doom says these lines we hear to Sue before vanishing with her child. Triggering the Fantastic Four into action and starting the events of the Doomsday film off.

While it’s clear no universe will survive the end of this movie, I think the X Men universe will be the one we witness destroyed in an incursion with only a few of them surviving with the fleeing Avengers. Professor X and Magneto being part of the few who accept their fate and hold hands before their everything ends.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo; produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Jonathan Schwartz; and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena, with Tenoch Huerta Mejia.

The film will release exclusively in cinemas 18th December, 2026. The film will be available in INFINITY VISION – a new certification for Premium Large Format (PLF) cinemas.
