    Synopsis

    Erica Slaughter’s origin continues!

Off on a hunt and away from the House, Erica and Jessica are again diverted from returning home. As they close in on the monster, their relationship is tested in new ways!

But when trouble strikes, will it be Jessica taking care of her pupil, or the other way around?

    Review

We return to Erica’s past as a young hunter, following her and Jessica to yet another small town plagued by something truly horrific—just as we’ve come to expect. However, this time, Jessica may have a personal history with the case, adding an extra layer of tension and drama.

Even as a child, Erica has never been one to follow orders or play by the rules. It’s rewarding to see those same bold, rebellious traits—so familiar to us in her adult years—alive and well in her younger self. She was always destined to be a rulebreaker, whether she wanted to or not.

What makes this era of her life particularly compelling is how unrefined and fallible she still is. She makes mistakes. She slips up. And each time, it reveals more about how she grows into the stoic, relentless hunter we know today. Watching her stumble makes her transformation all the more impactful.

One of the standout aspects of this series is the strength of its supporting characters. They consistently bring a sharp, witty, and often comedic energy that offers a refreshing contrast to the heavy, horrific core of the story. As readers, we’ve grown familiar with the main cast and the terrifying world they inhabit, but it’s the side characters—reacting with raw, unfiltered humanity—that keep the story grounded and unpredictable.

What really makes this issue hit hard, though, is one particular line of dialogue. When a character asks, “Are we safe?” and the reply comes: “No. None of us are.” It’s a chilling moment that encapsulates the ever-present dread of this world and reminds us just how fragile safety is in Erica’s universe.

    Verdict

A strong continuation of Erica’s past that shows how she became the rule-breaker we know and love. The side characters keep things fresh, with sharp humour and grounded reactions. One chilling line—“No. None of us are”—really drives home the sheer threat of it all. Overall, another strong instalment into this brilliantly crafted series.
