Sony Pictures has announced that this summer’s Karate Kid: Legends will be releasing in the UK in digital platforms from July 15, 2025.
Set against the bustling streets and underground fight circles of New York City, the film follows Li Fong (Ben Wang), a gifted kung fu student forced to start over after moving from China. Struggling to adjust to a new school and life in a strange city, Li finds an unlikely anchor in a warm friendship with a spirited classmate and her father, a former fighter with a past of his own.

When a run-in with a fierce local karate champion puts Li in the crosshairs of an elite martial arts crew, what began as a search for belonging turns into a test of resilience. Under the dual guidance of his calm and disciplined teacher Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) and the battle-hardened legend Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), Li begins to train like never before, blending ancient kung fu with classic karate in a bold, new fusion of fighting spirit.
Directed with reverence and energy, Karate Kid: Legends breathes new life into the franchise with heart-pounding action, powerful mentorship, and a cross-generational celebration of what it truly means to fight with honour.
In our three-star review Matt said “Ultimately, Karate Kid Legends is a fun and entertaining film that you want to love more than you actually do. It’s carried significantly by the affection fans hold for the franchise and the genuine heart embedded within its characters and themes. For those deeply invested in the world of Karate Kid and Cobra Kai, it offers enough familiar comfort and continuation to be an enjoyable watch. Yet, the frustrating editorial choices and the overly ambitious narrative scope prevent it from truly soaring. It’s a testament to the strength of its legacy that it remains a watchable film, but it also serves as a poignant example of a movie that, with a bit more focus and refinement, could have been a truly inspirational cinematic experience rather than just a good one.”
The film is written by Rob Lieber and directed by Jonathan Entwistle. It stars Jackie Chan (Rush Hour, The Karate Kid), Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid, Cobra Kai), Ben Wang (American Born Chinese), Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, Fringe), Sadie Stanley (Kim Possible, Somewhere in Queens), Ming-Na Wen (Mulan, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Aramis Knight (Ender’s Game, Into the Badlands), Wyatt Oleff (It, Guardians of the Galaxy) and William Zabka (The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai). It’s produced by Karen Rosenfelt (Twilight, The Devil Wears Prada).
