As we enter the new week we’re now just two months away from the release of Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later. With the June 20 release date drawing ever closer, Sony Pictures is beginning to ramp up promotion starting with a brand new featurette.
In the short video Boyle and writer Alex Garland discuss the work of 28 Years and how they approached returning to it 23 years after the original film. The pair discuss how the surviving infected now dominate the UK landscape making small island communities, like the one glimpsed in last week’s new trailer, a lifeline for survivors.
Watch the featurette in the player below:
It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.
Written by Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Civil War) and directed by Danny Boyle (28 Days Later), the new film stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams and Ralph Fiennes.
28 Years Later will be released in UK cinemas on June 20, 2025 by Sony Pictures.
