Sony Pictures’ fan-favourite Spider-Verse franchise is finally returning to cinemas… in 2027. During last night’s presentation at CinemaCon the studio officially put the third film in the trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, back on to its release schedule. The film will now hit cinemas on June 4, 2027.
The news will no doubt please fans whose concern for the film has been vocal on social media. Originally set to release in cinemas just one year after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the film has been hampered by production delays.
Producer Phil Lord and co-directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson were on hand at CinemaCon to present the first footage from the film to attendees. “We know how important this franchise is to so many people around us. We just could not run it back,” said the group. “So, we decided we needed to take the time to make sure we got it just right.”
Lord promises, “It’s going to be a massive finale to the trilogy.”
According to Variety, the footage again showcased the franchise’s bold, stylised animation, Miles Morales declares that he’s doing things “his way” after everyone lamenting that everyone has been telling him how his own story is supposed to go. Gwen Stacy and other Spidey friends also made appearances in the brief teaser, which hasn’t yet been released to the public.
Following the presentation the studio debuted several first-look images across their social media:
