We’ve known for a little while now that Paramount Pictures has more plans for the blockbuster Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. But with the third film still helping the franchise to break records at the box office the studio has now officially handed down a release date to the next instalment in the series.
Just as Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has crossed $425 million at the global box office, the studio has confirmed that the fourth film – presumably titled Sonic the Hedgehog 4 – will release on March 19, 2027. That feels like a long way away this point but then so did 2025 just a few short weeks ago.
Meanwhile that third film has now become the highest grossing in the franchise, beating the $319.7 million of the first film and $405.4 million of the second. It seems the Jeff Fowler directed franchise is just continuing to grow in popularity and we can’t wait to see where it goes next!
In our five-star review of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 James said “Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is the best Sonic yet! It’s also one of the best video game adaptations to date. With electrifying action, truly touching moments that propels this third movie up, and Jim Carrey doing what he does best, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 marks a wonderfully chaotic end to the year.”
