Synopsis
Clayface is having a (dinner) party, and everybody’s invited…as long as their name is Clayface! We’ve got all the Clayfaces in here—Basil, Matt, Sondra, Preston, Cassius, Spanky, Alfalfa, Stymie, even Clownface (remember Clownface?)! My latest Destruction Agency case brings me face-to-face with Clayface as I crash and burn the ultimate muck-filled family reunion harder than Aunt Ethel’s overcooked brisket at last year’s Passover seder! Oh yeah, and somebody’s gonna die in this one.
Review
Harley Quinn’s latest nemesis? Oh, just the sinister duo of capitalism and gentrification personified by property mogul Athea. You know things are getting serious when your enemy has a more impressive real estate portfolio than a stock market tycoon! In this electrifying issue, we see Harley’s ‘destruction business’ booming—so much so that she’s snagged herself a new gig: blowing up a fancy hipster restaurant downtown. Because who wouldn’t want to blow up a place that serves avocado toast deconstructed to the point of existential crisis?
Between her business ventures and chaotic fights, Harley also has another aspect of her life to navigate…LOVE. Between her neighbour and her enemy, Harley’s romantic interests—outside of Ivy, since they’re ‘open’—are starting to stack up, offering a delightful subplot in which to immerse yourself.
As always, the one-liners are absolutely on fire throughout this entire issue! The writing captures Harley’s humour in such a delightful way that I’m honestly blown away by each issue. After so many iterations and attempts, it’s such a breath of fresh air to read a comic run that truly embodies everything I love about this character. The moment that really stood out for me in this issue is when Harley said, “Way to make the subtext text, sister”—trust me, you’ll know it when you get to it. I couldn’t help but cackle out loud!
From explosive antics to hilarious one-liners, this issue of Harley Quinn has it all! If you love chaos, love triangles, and a dash of satire, you HAVE to check it out. It’s another cracking issue that continues Harley’s fever-dream-like rampage on Throatcutter Hill. From the stunning illustrative art style and action to the laugh-out-loud dialogue, everything about this issue harks back to the best Saturday morning cartoons. Whether you’re a fan of Harley as a character, a DC enthusiast, or simply looking for a place to start in the world that is comic books, I can’t recommend this series enough. It has that addictively entertaining quality that you want from a comic of this nature – truly top-tier entertainment.
Verdict
In the latest issue of Harley Quinn, our chaotic anti-hero takes on capitalism via a property mogul while hilariously navigating explosive missions and tangled romantic interests. With sharp humour and vibrant art, this instalment is an addictive blend of mayhem and wit that every fan will love.
