Warner Bros. and their producing partners at New Line Cinema are gearing up for their upcoming The Lord of the Rings animated feature The War of the Rohirrim. The film, which comes to cinemas in December, returns audiences to the epic world brought to life in the revered books by J.R.R. Tolkien. To celebrate the impending war coming to Edoras, Warner Bros. gave us the unique opportunity to sit and chat to some of the creatives that helped make this project possible.
Our very own James sat down with Producer and writer Philippa Boyens who wrote the original The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit, and Peter Jackson’s King Kong. Together, they talked about Philippa’s return to Middle Earth, the anime medium, and the stunning visuals that helped fill Middle Earth with life.
Synopsis:
Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg—a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.
