Warner Bros. has announced that Shazam 2 will be hitting cinemas a lot sooner than we had expected. So soon, in fact, that it will be in cinemas just four months after the release of Black Adam!
Late last night the studio confirmed that Zachary Levi will be returning to our screens on April 1st, 2022. It is expected that the first film’s director, David F. Sanberg, will return for the sequel.
For those keeping score that means the upcoming slate of DC Comics films now looks a little like this:
- February 7, 2020 – Birds of Prey
- June 5, 2020 – Wonder Woman 1984
- June 25, 2021 – The Batman
- August 6, 2021 – The Suicide Squad
- December 22, 2021 – Black Adam
- April 1, 2022 – Shazam 2
- July 1, 2022 – The Flash
- December 22, 2022 – Aquaman 2
For a franchise written off by many following Justice League there’s a healthy amount of films current in development.
Released in 2019, the original Shazam! stars Zachary Levi (“Chuck”), Jack Dylan Grazer (“IT”) as Billy’s best friend and ultimate superhero enthusiast, Freddy, part of the foster family that includes Mary, played by Grace Fulton (“Annabelle: Creation”); Darla, played by Faithe Herman (TV’s “This is Us”); Eugene, played by Ian Chen (TV’s “Fresh Off the Boat”); and Pedro, played by Jovan Armand (TV’s “Hawaii Five-O”). Cooper Andrews (TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and Marta Milans (TV’s “Killer Women”) play foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez, with Djimon Hounsou (“This is Us”) as the Wizard.
The film is available now on home video.
