    Synopsis

Kasia isn’t just trying to figure out who killed her friend, she is trying to avenge the death of someone with whom she shared a passionate, complicated, heart-wrenching love affair. But at the heart of Johnny and Kasia’s romance lies a dark, deadly secret that may be the key to solving the mystery of his death…or threaten to destroy The Tin Can Society forever.

    Review

After the bombastic ending of the last issue, The Tin Can Society has a lot to prove now that the central mystery has become even more entangled than before. Here the relationships of the society are pushed to the limits as collectively try to figure what is going on and what each of them are up to.

So far, the series has used flashbacks to great advantage, allowing us as readers to better grasp the various dynamics within the core friend group. However, what this issue cleverly does is use these flashbacks to parallel events in the present. For instance, when a fight breaks out between Adam, Val, Greg and Kasia in the garage it immediately transitions to them as kids play fighting in a field.

Compared to the previous two issues, this one has more of an emphasis on the drama and emotional turmoil of this situation, especially from Kasia’s point of view. She has been a genuinely compelling protagonist since the first issue but here her story and pain is really bought to the forefront in staggering detail. The intimacy of her relationship with Johnny is developed further here and brilliant brings to light the struggles of secrecy, disability, and fame when it comes to such as intense partnership.

The artwork once again is visually stunning as it blends the dark and lighter moments so effortlessly. The character expressions and brief moments of violence are handled with an impressive amount of detail and vibrancy that leaps off of the page.

This issue also ends on a gripping cliffhanger, something the previous instalment also did very well, that leaves many questions unanswered but heightens the growing tensions between Kasia and the group as well as the many emotions she’s having to battle whilst solving this constantly building mystery.

    Verdict

This issue perfectly raises the stakes and tensions of this ever growing and emotionally charged mystery. Every page is just as engaging as the last and The Tin Can Society continues to be even more engrossing with each new instalment.
