Dark Horse Comics has announced a new Direct Market Edition release for The Writer. Josh Gad (Frozen), Ben and Max Berkowitz (The Forever House), Ariel Olivetti (Daredevil, X-Men), and Frank Cvetkovic’s (Cyberpunk 2077) four-issue comic series, a tale of heroism, magic, folklore, and the thrilling power of the written word, will be collected for the first time in Spring 2025.
The publisher will bring two new editions of the book to stores: a Direct Market Edition and paperback edition. Both collecting all four issues of The Writer and including a cover gallery and sketchbook section. The Direct Market Edition will be exclusive to comic shops and features a new cover illustrated by the legendary Mike Mignola (Hellboy, Bowling with Corpses and Other Strange Tales from Lands Unknown).
Here’s a look at the new cover artwork for the Direct Market Edition:
About the Direct Market Edition, Ben Berkowitz says, “Mike Mignola—my hero, inspiration, and creator whose work has profoundly shaped The Writer and my own journey—illustrated this INCREDIBLE cover for our series. I was left in tears when I saw it for the first time. It’s beautiful, haunting, EPIC, and beyond anything I ever imagined my first comic could carry. ‘Grateful’ doesn’t even begin to cover it. This cover is a gift I’ll treasure forever.”
The Writer plunges readers into the captivating world of Stan Siegel, a renowned comic book writer whose life spirals into a terrifying adventure beyond the confines of reality. Alongside his fiercely protective mother, Liz, and his brilliant daughter, Izzy, Stan faces an onslaught of Nazis, demons, and mythical creatures drawn from Jewish folklore. As they navigate a landscape steeped in occult mysteries, their quest for answers reveals hidden identities and ignites a high-stakes race against an emerging terror.
The Writer Direct Market Edition and paperback edition will be available in comic shops and bookstores on April 22, 2025. The Direct Market Edition is now available to preorder from your local comic shop. The paperback edition is now available to preorder at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, indie bookstores, and your local comic shop.
