The annual Musical Anatomy of a Superhero panel is a staple of any San Diego Comic-Con and 2024 is shaping up to be a landmark year. As the panel celebrates its ten year anniversary an all-star selection of composers will come together on Thursday, July 25 for a deep dive hosted by a Hollywood legend.
Rob Simonsen (Deadpool & Wolverine, ), Christopher Lennertz (The Boys, Gen V), Michael Abels (Star Wars: The Acolyte, Nope), Leopold Ross (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Shogun), Sherri Chung (Found, The Gremlins) will join special guest moderator Michael Giacchino (Thor: Love and Thunder, The Batman, Spider-Man: No Way Home) for 2024’s panel.
Music has always been an important supporting character in movies; this goes to another level in the superhero film genre, along with other heroes this year, where the music sets a tone that helps define a character, an impending battle, or a triumphant moment. This year’s panel continues the tradition of showcasing unreleased music and videoclips from upcoming and recently released projects. Leading Hollywood composers will explain the process and challenges of creating music behind the superhero genre, along with collaborating with the director, producers, and the franchise. The event is produced by Costa Communications and sponsored by ASCAP, BMI, and the SCL.
