You certainly can’t make great comics without great editors, and IDW Publishing is incredibly proud to announce the addition of two talented new hires in the Editorial department: Bixie Mathieu and Cassandra Jones. Additionally, several members of the hardworking Editorial team have received promotions.

The new announcements come hot on the heels of the news that IDW picked up thirteen nominations at the 2024 Eisner Awards. The prizes will be handed out later this summer in a ceremony taking place on July 26 at Comic-Con International.

Mathieu joins the award-winning publisher as Associate Editor, with an emphasis on the My Little Pony and Sonic the Hedgehog lines of comics in addition to developing pitches for original properties. With a degree in International Studios from the University of Texas at Austin, IDW’s new Associate Editor boasts an impressive resume which includes DC, Tapas, and Skybound. “Of course I’m excited to be on this team… it’s IDW,” proudly exclaimed Mathieu. “With some of the best IP and characters to play around with, I’m excited to help shape franchises. Not only that, but this is one of the best teams in comics with some of the most capable folks in the whole industry.”

Jones has become IDW’s new Editorial Assistant, focusing on the Eisner Award-nominated Star Trek line. They have a BA in English from Boston University and an MA in Writing, Literature and Publishing from Emerson College. Jones brings eight years of experience in book publishing to the team and is known for creating and editing the comics anthology Let Her Be Evil. Jones is eager to boldly explore the vast STAR TREK universe in addition to the other captivating tales that IDW publishes.

“I’m looking forward to wholeheartedly delving into each of the fascinating worlds found within IDW’s licenses and working with all of the passionate creators,” stated the new Editorial Assistant. “Every day I learn something new, whether that be about the crew of the Enterprise or the Defiant, a whimsical detail about Equestria, a sick new ninja plot in TMNT, or a hint about an upcoming Godzilla showdown – there’s never a boring day.”

“We could not be more thrilled to have brought aboard two new voices to the Editorial team,” said Group Editor of Licensing Heather Antos. “With her extensive work in both licensed and creator-owned comics to help launch some of the biggest titles in comics today, Bixie Mathieu is bringing her expertise to all things Sonic, My Little Pony, and is already hot on suggesting new titles to bring. Meanwhile, Cas Jones’ extensive background in books as well as indie comics publishing is bringing a fierce new perspective to all things licensed comics here at IDW.” Antos added, “They are two of the most enthusiastic editors I’ve ever met in this business and they are sure to bring that energy to their books!”

Additional changes in the Editorial department include Nic Niño becoming Assistant Editor on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jake Williams as Associate Editor on the Godzilla line and creator-owned titles, and Thea Cheuk as Editor leading the Sonic the Hedgehog line and Saturday Morning Adventures titles.

“A captain is only as good as his team, and with the editors I’ve got working with me, I could win any championship,” remarked Editor-in-Chief Jamie S. Rich. “Everyone is unique in the point of view they bring to the table, but we are united in our great love of comics. It’s exciting to work with such a passionate group, and I think their expertise is evident on every page. Our readers, I am sure, agree – and if they don’t know, they will when they see all the awesome comics we have coming.”
