Today is the fictional birthday of none other than Superman and not even director James Gunn could resist celebrating. The director has dropped a surprise first look at the chest emblem from David Corenswet’s suit in the upcoming, newly titled, Superman.
Releasing the first-look image on social media, Gunn confirmed that principal photography was now underway. Seemingly a happy accident to have occurred on the same day as Supes’ birthday. The image arrived at the same time as a supposed full look at the costume leaked online. That image was quickly debunked by Gunn.
In confirming that cameras are now rolling the director and head of DC Studios also announced a name change for the film. The first film in the brand new DCU is dropping the Legacy moniker and will now simply be titled Superman.

The image confirms that the logo is inspired by the classic DC storyline Kingdom Come, first published back in 1996. A more heavily stylised S-logo also have a yellow outer border, something we haven’t seen before in live-action. The fact the costume appears to have snow falling on it strongly hints that filming is currently underway on sets for the famed Fortress of Solitude. Safe to say that will be making an appearance when the film hits cinemas next year.
The film’s already stacked cast includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. It was recently confirmed that Nicholas Hoult will take on the role of Lex Luthor.
Superman is due to hit cinemas on July 11, 2025 from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
