Hunter Schafer (Euphoria, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and Noomi Rapace (Lamb, Prometheus, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) are set to star in Palette, a 2023 Black List script, and the feature film debut from Zach Strauss, (“SMILF”), who has also penned Spike Lee’s upcoming film Da Understudy. Schafer’s upcoming Neon film Cuckoo will premiere as a Special Gala at this year’s Berlinale, and she has also recently completed filming Mother Mary, directed by David Lowery and filming on Kinds of Kindness, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.
Described as a visceral and mind-bending psychological thriller, Dolly, a woman suffering from extreme synesthesia, a rare condition where she is able to hear colors, gets recruited into a secretive, cult-like industry of color design, uncovering the dark reality of what it takes to make the world’s greatest hues. Schafer will play ‘Dolly,’ Rapace will play the company’s enigmatic executive ‘Latrice’ and Frankie Shaw (SMILF, MR. Robot) has joined the cast as ‘Sidney’, Hunter’s cutthroat rival.
“I feel beyond lucky to be making this dark and twisted movie with a truly exceptional cast and with such incredible partners in Anton, I know we’re going to create something really special” says Strauss in a statement.
“Zach has crafted such a compelling and completely distinctive script. We are putting together a team that will bring the stunning visuals of the story to the screen. Hunter & Noomi are truly perfect for our two leads and I cannot wait to see them bring these rich and unique characters to life. We could not be more excited about this film” adds producer John Zois.
The film is currently understood to be in pre-production with release dates to be confirmed at a later date.
