Breaking news overnight as it has been confirmed that House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock has landed the role of Supergirl in James Gunn’s DCU. The studio head confirmed the news on social media, making the news 100% official.
First reported in several Hollywood trades, Alcock joins actor David Corenswet who was previously announced to take on the role of her very famous cousin, Superman. Though not confirmed, it is widely expected that Alcock will make her on-screen debut in 2025’s Superman: Legacy which is due to being filming in the coming weeks. She will then take the lead in her own film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
As per Variety, the Australian-born Alcock started her acting career as a teenager, before she was cast in her breakout role on the Game of Thrones prequel series where she played the younger Rhaenyra Targaryen. She won wide acclaim with critics for her performance as the striving Targaryen princess in the first five episodes of the show, before Emma D’Arcy took over the role as the show jumped forward in time 10 years.
Woman of Tomorrow is currently searching for a director whilst actor and playwright Ana Nogueira crafts the script. The film will be based on the acclaimed Woman of Tomorrow comic book series from Eisner Award-winning writer Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The book finds the heroine lost, without purpose and searching for meaning across the galaxy. Everything changes when an alien girl seeks Kara, along with Crypto the Superdog, out to help her take revenge on the bad guys who destroyed her world.
Congratulations Milly and welcome to the DCU!
