Issue #116 is available 24th January 2024 either directly from BOOM! Studios online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

In the race to reach the Master Arch, the last Ranger anyone expected is the only one to arrive… But it’s far from over, with a deadly villain not far behind. An epic confrontation years in the making is finally here as the Darkest Hour reaches a fever pitch! But in the twisted arena of the Grid, the lines between hero and villain blur even further, and this battle might just prove to be the end of one character’s long journey.

    Review

As the infection tightens it’s grasp on the universe the race for the Master Arch becomes more intense, Lord Drakkon is the first “Ranger” to appear and is met by Kimberly, his Ranger Slayer but this will be no friendly catch up. To understand the issue between the two we are taken back before the Shattered Grid to a time were Drakkon and Kimberly worked seamlessly together, the darkness already taking control however Kimberly still shows signs of a time when she was less dark.

Back at Earth’s command centre Billy is working tirelessly to extract the Rangers from the impending danger in Angel Grove, he thinks he’s finally cracked it and come up with a scenario where he can beam all Rangers to safety but he must act fast and there’s no guarantees that it will definitely work, with time running out time will tell.

Back in current time we are met by Drakkon as he begins to search for his answers but he as he comes across a familiar figure in Kimberly it becomes clear that he may not get the answers he wants. As the two come to blows as their differences are laid out it becomes clear that Drakkon may not be what we thought. As the Darkest Hour is about to come to it’s conclusion things in the Power Ranger world may well be about to change forever and the hero we are looking for may be the most unexpected.

I’ve said in previous reviews on this arc that this has probably been the most gripping story arc I have read in some time, throughout this whole arc I have been begging for some kind of hope that all is not lost however as we can see the ending on the horizon it still isn’t clear if good still has enough left to overcome evil.

I am definitely putting Melissa Flores up there as one of my favourite comic book writers she has taken a world that basically brought me up and injected a whole new lease of life into it, it feels vibrant and fresh with every issue blowing me away I just long for the next.

Adam Gorham and Marco Renna bring out the big guns with the illustrations on this book bringing the darkness of the infection to life, the impacting story is elevated to new heights as the powerful tones used highlight the hard hitting story that pushes the boundaries of good Vs evil.

    Verdict

An incredible event that is set to blow apart the whole Power Rangers universe, well written and well illustrated a creative masterpiece that’s close to perfection.
