As 2024 gets underway we’re getting ever closer to the final season of Star Trek: Discovery. This week it’s been confirmed that the Paramount+ series will be heading to the SXSW festival, taking place in Austin TX from March 8-16, 2024.
Hot off the heels of rumoured episode titles for season 5, it’s been confirmed the season will hold its premiere at the festival alongside a Q&A. Whilst no panel members have been confirmed, the SXSW website does include a synopsis for the season premiere, rumoured to be titled “Red Directive”.
Captain Burnham and the U.S.S. Discovery are sent to retrieve a mysterious 800-year-old Romulan vessel; until the artifact hidden inside is stolen, leading to an epic chase. Meanwhile, Saru is offered the position of a lifetime, and Tilly’s efforts to help pull her into a tangled web of secrecy.
We still await final news on a premiere date for season 5, but in the meantime why not re-watch the first look released at New York Comic-Con 2022:
Cast members in season 5 include Sonequa Martin-Green (Captain Michael Burnham), Doug Jones (Saru), Anthony Rapp (Paul Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Sylvia Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), David Ajala (Cleveland “Book” Booker), Blu del Barrio (Adira) and Callum Keith Rennie (Rayner). Season five also features recurring guest stars’ Elias Toufexis (L’ak) and Eve Harlow (Moll).
The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Michelle Paradise, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers. Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise serve as co-showrunners.
Star Trek: Discovery seasons one through four are currently streaming exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., the U.K., Switzerland, South Korea, Latin America, Germany, France, Italy, Australia and Austria. Seasons two and three are also available on the Pluto TV “Star Trek” channel in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. In Canada, it airs on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel.
