2024 might be a little thin on the ground for DC-related movies. The company only has Joker: Folie à Deux hitting our screens this year. But behind-the-scenes this is going to be a huge year for fans as the DCU begins in earnest with the start of production on James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
Fans are well aware that Gunn is an avid user of social media. Most of the film’s casting announcements were made by Gunn himself across his social channels. Well now the director has answered a few more fan questions in several posts on the recently launched Threads platform.
His responses range from the brilliantly vague, telling one fan that costumes will be ready “By the time we shoot” to a more lengthy update on production “It’s going swimmingly. Sets being built, costumes being finished, actors studying roles, prosthetics and VFX models being made, flights booked. Here we go.”
In other updates Gunn confirmed that casting is over 90% complete (“More.”) and but still not finished. He also confirmed that concept art is still being worked on, confirming that not all design work on the 2025 release is complete. In a final post Gunn confirmed that there are still “over two months” to go until cameras roll so there’s plenty of time for more updates in the meantime.
The film’s already stacked cast includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. It was recently confirmed that Nicholas Hoult will take on the role of Lex Luthor.
The film is due to hit cinemas on July 11, 2025.
