Earlier this year, it was announced that Scott Derrickson’s The Black Phone would be getting a sequel. Today, Deadline have reported that four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke will be back as the haunting and cunning villain The Grabber. Considering how the first movie ended, we do have some questions.
In addition to Hawke returning, a few more familiar faces are gearing up for a second bout with The Grabber. Mason Thames (How to Train Your Dragon), Madeleine McGraw (Toy Story 4), Jeremy Davies (Justified) and Miguel Mora (The Black Phone) are set to return for Black Phone 2.
Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, who penned the first movie together, will be writing and producing the sequel. While the first movie was based on Joe Hill’s short story, it appears as though this sequel will be free to do its own thing.
The upcoming sequel from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse is due to be released in cinemas on June 27th, 2025, three years after the first film premiered.
