Synopsis
As if the medium-spanning, fan-favorite villain Drakkon wasn’t enough of a threat, Mistress Vile has special plans of her own… ones that will bring the Rangers’ greatest foe into our world! But this scheming isn’t without consequences for Drakkon, and he’ll have to take a page from Zordon’s book if he wants the world of The Coinless to survive.
Review
In this special one shot issue we follow Lord Drakkon and Kiya as they go back to what is first thought to be Lord Drakkon’s rightful throne, but having been away for quite sometime things have now changed and I can’t say that it’s for the better. Once ruled over a dystopian wasteland Power Rangers known as the Coinless look set to topple his darkened reign.
As Drakkon travels back to his home universe with Kiya it becomes clear that all is not what it seems, an unlikely alliance must come together to take down the most evil threat of Dark Spectre that Mistress Vile is working hard to unleash throughout the universe and the universe that Drakkon used to call home already looks to have succumb to his evil grip.
This one shot slots well into the overall story that’s building within the main Power Rangers multiverse, it does a good job in adding more depth to the evil takeover of Dark Spectre and gives a better understanding of what is unfolding.
This is the first time I have come across the work of Adam Cesare and as an introduction I am impressed, it’s as if he’s been involved with Power Rangers from the start he just gets the characters and the universe as a whole and uses the one shot as a platform to build the story further adding more depth to the characters and story.
Moisés Hidalgo and Arthur Hesli combine their artistic talents to supply the illustrations and colours to this book, each panel comes alive infront of your eyes as you are pulled into the universe with spectacular artwork and bold colours that explode in your imagination elevating the story and taking the reader on an intense journey that builds the story perfectly to go back to the main story arc.
Verdict
A great addition to the overall story arc that’s building as the fight to defeat Dark Spectre begins to heat up, once again the creative team have brought out the big guns and supplied a great book that adds more meat to the solid bones of the main story.
