Another Game of Thrones prequel based on George R.R. Martin’s beautiful and treacherous world of Westeros has officially been announced by HBO. This brand new spin-off will focus on Martin’s Dunk and Egg books. We’ll be following the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire.
The announcement was made during Warner Bros. Discovery’s presentation, where it was also announced that HBO Max would be merging with Discovery+ to form “Max”.
The series is currently titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which seems to suggest that subsequent seasons could potentially follow the other stories revolving around Dunk and Egg- The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight.

The official logline states:
“A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
George R. R. Martin will serve as both writer and executive producer alongside Ira Parker, who was a co-executive producer on House of the Dragon. Game of Thrones veterans Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis will also serve as executive producers.
It has almost been two years since HBO began planning additional Game of Thrones spin-offs. As of right now, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the only that has made a big leap forward in terms of production, but there were three more in the pipeline with the Sea Snake series being the most active out of the bunch. With HBO making a big push for more shows set in Westeros, perhaps we’ll receive an update sometime in the near future.
Or perhaps they have already joined the Night King’s army of the dead.
