Review
In this issue we reach the epic finale of the MTG comic series and the series is set to go out with a bang, the multiverse is in grave danger with Nicol Bolas is at his most powerful and dangerous putting the Planeswalkers in grave danger, overpowered and unprepared to take on such a threat it looks as though the end could well be in sight for our Planeswalker heroes, unless they can find a way to take down Bolas the multiverse will be doomed. This final battle sees the return of characters from all off-shoot stories throughout the MTG comic multiverse as the Planeswalkers try their very best to find a weakness and take Bolas down once and for all, there is hop in sight as Jace Bellerin returns wielding a secret weapon that could well be the saving grace for the multiverse, but is it too late?
The writing from Jed MacKay and Rich Douek in this issue is some of the best I have seen in this series, from the first issue you could get a sense that the story was building to this end point and the writing took me on a journey that I have dreamed of many times as a child playing the MTG card game, as much as I didn’t want to see it come to an end but I feel as though it ended in a logical place and felt the story had ended well.
Illustrations from French Carlomagno and Roberta Ingranata provide the visual depth to the story, a visual journey that has been spellbinding from the beginning each panel has brought to life the magical world of MTG taking me back to days of playing the card game daydreaming of stepping into Ravinca and thanks to this comic series I have felt like I’ve been along for the ride. Highly detailed illustrations and bold bright colours from Mattia Iacono and Arianna Consonni illuminates the story and allows the epic conclusion to explode on the page.
Verdict
Close to comic perfection, this series has been building to this epic ending from the start. I have mixed emotions with sadness to have it come to an end but happiness that I have witnessed the story unfold, a must read for any MTG fan.
