Review
In this issue life in Gotham is getting considerably darker with an ex cop on a vengeance filled killing spree Commissioner Montoya begins to lose control in work and in life she’s battled her demons before but could this be one fight too many? Danny Ortega has been named as the “person of interest” for the killings, he’s missing and the note found at the killing of the Commissioner’s brother and fiancé points the finger firmly in his direction. Ortega left the force under a dark cloud, the constant “bantering” became too much to bare but could that turn him into a mass killer?
As a fan of gritty American cop shows such as The Shield and Chicago PD, the creation of one of these dramas within the comic world that I have loved so much over the years seems a perfect fit and thanks to John Ridley it works and works well, Ridley brings a personal darkness and realism to a world that is already dark and corrupt this series takes that and injects it with an emotional rawness that hits on different levels that any Gotham series has done before.
Stefano Raffaele and Reiko Murakami create a visual backdrop that adds more rawness to the story and gives the reader a ride like no other before.
Verdict
A series that I am fully invested in, a series that has been one of the most gripping I have read in recent times one day I would love to see this series come alive on the screen it seems it would be a perfect fit as a series on the streaming services. A great book that keeps getting better, I can’t wait for the final issue.
