Review
In this special one off issue in the One Bad Day series we follow Selina or Catwoman as she goes on an adventure to get back a particular item that holds great importance to her past life and may well have more monetary value than she first thought.
Growing up was a struggle for young Selina with her sister alongside a single mum trying to to what she could to just to get by and survive, if that means selling a prized family heirloom then that’s a choice she was willing to make. Fast forward a few years and the once thought long lost heirloom appears in an auction and Selina needs to get it back, a mysterious chance meeting with an elderly lady claiming to be the curator gives the impression that the worth of the heirloom may well be more than originally thought and said to hold historic significance making it even more important to get hold of, but who was this lady? and more importantly can Selina trust her? it is Gotham after all and people aren’t exactly the most trustworthy in these parts. This is personal for Selina but it could well be a case of in too deep for Catwoman as we don’t know what exactly she is going into.
This issue of the One Bad Day series has carried on the strong tradition of beig a comic that I have enjoyed probably the most this year, each issue grows the series in strength. G. Willow Wilson provides a story that brings more emotion to the iconic dark character, giving a reason to why she may well trust felines over humans. This story is raw and emotionally driven all at the same time delivering an action filled comic that keeps you entertained throughout. The story is written well and has everything you could want from a comic, definitely ticks the right boxes.
The illustrations are strong and highlight the dramatic story well. Jamie McKelvie accentuates the story well highlighting the emotion and driving the deep rooted passion with dark, dramatic tones thar takes the reader into the heart of Gotham once more.
Verdict
By now the One Bad Day series is more or less a guaranteed 5⭐️ production, the creative team are one of the collective best in the business and it shows. A series that just keeps getting better.
