Great news from across the stars! Netflix have finally set a release date for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon. The epic space adventure that was originally penned as a Star Wars feature, will arrive on Netflix on December 22nd, 2023.
In a discussion with The Hollywood Reporter back in 2021, Snyder said “This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan.” The director also added that he hopes the film will become a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.” With Snyder’s Army of the Dead spawning it’s own pocket universe with spin off films and an upcoming animated project, we’re certain that we’ll have plenty of opportunity to explore Snyder’s galactic universe.
Rebel Moon will center on a young woman called Kora who embarks on a journey to seek aid from neighbouring planets after her peaceful colony is attacked by a fierce dictator called Belisarius.
Zack Snyder shared the news via Twitter which also included a new look at Sofia Boutella as Kora:
The cast is rather impressive as well… Anthony Hopkins voices a JC1435 robot called Jimmy, Sofia Boutella will star as Kora, the film’s lead, Djimon Hounsou will play General Titus, and Ed Skrein will step in as the film’s big villain, Regent Belisarius. The cast also includes Charlie Hunnam, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, Michiel Huisman, Jena Malone, Cary Elwes, Stuart Martin, Kingston Foster, Corey Stoll, Doona, Alfonso Herrera, Ingvar Sigurdsson, Fra Fee, and Staz Nair.
