Whilst families across the UK were digesting their Christmas dinner yesterday, the BBC decided to wake us up with a surprise trailer for next year’s return of Doctor Who. The series is set to return in November with three feature-length specials to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the franchise.
The latest trailer focusses on the return of David Tennant and how his return also ties to the reappearance of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble.
Check out the brand new trailer in the player below:
The trailer also confirms the return of two other characters from the Doctor’s past: Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble, Donna’s mum, and Karl Collins as Shaun Temple, now Donna’s husband.
We also get our first look at Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney as Donna and Shaun’s daughter, Rose. The trailer also confirms that Ruth Madeley, who previously worked with returning showrunner Russel T. Davies on Years & Years, is also joining the cast in the role of Shirley Anne Bingham.
The trailer ends with a familiar shot of the next Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, as he exclaims “Will someone tell me what the hell is going on here?” It was recently confirmed that this shot has been altered to hide his true surroundings to avoid spoilers. Could a confrontation of various Doctors be on the horizon?
