Back in 2018, which seems like a while ago now, director Aneesha Chaganty gave us Searching. The missing persons thriller saw John Cho use every piece of technology at his disposal to search for his daughter. The fun thing about this film is that it takes place almost entirerly behind a phone/computer camera or through messaging devices. Sony Pictures’ Missing continues that tradition, but with an entirely new cast and a fresh setting. Missing is set to arrive in cinemas on Februry 24th, 2023.
To get audiences ready for this tech-filled search, Sony Pictures have released a trailer that teases what we can expect. But before we dive into that… Here is the film’s synopsis:
From the minds behind Searching comes Missing, a thrilling roller-coaster mystery that makes you wonder how well you know those closest to you. When her mother (Nia Long) disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, June’s (Storm Reid) search for answers is hindered by international red tape. Stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June creatively uses all the latest technology at her fingertips to try and find her before it’s too late. But as she digs deeper, her digital sleuthing raises more questions than answers…and when June unravels secrets about her mom, she discovers that she never really knew her at all.
Count us in! Sounds pretty exciting, right? Searching absolutely nailed that tech aesthetic, so it’ll be interesting to see whether Missing can not only replicate it, but also build on it.
