Gears of War, one of the biggest and coolest videogame franchises on Xbox, is making its way to Netflix in the near future. There have been whispers of some form of adaptation for a while now, people really want to see Marcus Fenix and that world on screen, whether it be via a feature film or an animated series. Well, to celebrate the 16th anniversary of the game, which was released back in 2006, Netflix shared some rather exciting news about the future of Gears of War.
It appears as though Netflix has some pretty big plans with The Coalition, the Canadian game developer behind the huge franchise. As of now, Netflix will be adapting the game into a live-action feature followed by an animated series… It goes without saying, the animated series will be aimed at diehard fans so blood and gore are guaranteed. Wouldn’t it be great to have a Gears of War series with a similar aniamtion style to Castlevania?
Currently, no producers, directors, or actors are attached to any of the projects. But with the announcement being so fresh, it may be a while before we start seeing any major developments. However, we could start seeing bits of news in the coming months. It may not be a lot to go on right now, but it’s clear that Netflix has a plan.
As stated in their Tweet, if things go well with these two projects we may get even more from the Gears of War universe. Of course, it’s too early to tell what that may include, but we’re excited to see what Netflix and The Coalition bring to the table.
