The Assassin’s Creed franchise has had quite the history. There have been some absolutely stellar stories over the years, but the franchise seems to have gradually lost its way focusing more on open-world RPGs rather than the assassin mythology that many of us grew up with. With a game like Valhalla, for example, the idea of being an assassin faded behind the reams of quests and the heavy focus on the “Viking Experience”.
Faith has been shaken, but it’s difficult not to be intrigued and excited by a new Assassin’s Creed announcement. Last week, Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage would be the next installment in the franchise. Not much is known about the game itself but rumors seem to indicate that this game will be set in Baghdad and will actually follow Valhalla‘s Basim (Basim Ibn Ishaq) who is actually a reincarnated Loki.
More is set to be revealed about Assassin’s Creed Mirage via Ubisoft Forward, but the video game company may have more to share. Earlier, Ubisoft promised to “unveil the future of the franchise” which may extend beyond Mirage. With rumors spreading like wildfire, the two main claims point towards a game set in Japan (currently known as Project Red), and another game set in Europe in the 16th century during the witch hunts (known as Project Hexe).
Of course, there is also the live-action series at Netflix which was revealed two years ago. The future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise could be rather bright. The answers we seek will be available to us on Saturday when Ubisoft Forward kicks off.
