Sad news this morning as two of our Arrowverse favourites have met an untimely end at the had of The CW executives. Overnight it was confirmed that both Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow will not be returning for new seasons, bringing their runs to an end.
Whilst the network had handed out early renewals to Superman & Lois and The Flash, both Legends and Batwoman’s fates were left up in the air. Decisions are still yet to be made on a number of other CW shows including DC series Naomi and Stargirl.
First to be announced was Batwoman, with showrunner Caroline Dries taking to social media to confirm the terrible news. “Just got the sad news that Batwoman will not be seeing an S4” said Dries on Twitter. “I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you producers, cast and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you.”
Following the announcement it seemed only a matter of time before the axe was sung on Legends of Tomorrow. It was left to co-showrunner Keto ShimizuIt to reveal the news. “It’s been an incredible run. However, the CW has let us know that there will be no season 8… We are heartbroken, but also immensely grateful for the amazing work our cast, crew, and writers have contributed to the little show that could.”
Casts and crew members from across both series have been reacting to the news throughout the night on their social channels. We’ll be sad to see both of these shows leave the airwaves but with plenty of fond memories of their time in the Arrowverse.
