With Star Wars Day approaching, we’ve entered our yearly phase where our passion for Star Wars thrives. The release of Obi-Wan Kenobi has certainly helped maintain that high, but last week brought some incredibly exciting news. A new Star Wars adventure is on the way from one of the most acclaimed creators in the video game world.
Skydance New Media announced a collaboration with Lucasfilm Games to develop and produce a narrative-driven game surrounding an original story that will be set within the Star Wars universe. The game will be helmed by the brilliant and legendary Amy Hennig whose credits include the Uncharted series, Legacy of Kain, and Jak and Daxter.
“I’ve often described how seeing Star Wars in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly,” said Hennig. “I’m elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.”
It is of course very early days, so that is all we know so far. Regardless, we can’t wait to see what this collaboration brings to the table. We’re always ready for a narrative-driven Star Wars video game, just look at Fallen Order. Although, this development has us thinking. Fallen Order is very much about the remnants of the Jedi after Order 66, then we have Eclipse which is set during the High Republic- arguably when the Jedi were at the height of their power. So where does that leave this game?
Well, we could be looking at a game that ventures outside of the typical tropes concerning the Light Side and the Dark Side. What if this game looks at the underworld that plagues Corusant? Or building on the hyper surrounding The Mandalorian, this game could focus on bounty hunting. That’s what is so amazing about this universe, it is limitless. Anything can happen. But for now… We’re very much in the dark.
As always, keep your eyes peeled for more news. Any thoughts on what this Star Wars game could include? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
