Godzilla fans rejoice! Well, monster fans in general can rejoice, because we finally have some more news regarding the state of Legendary’s MonsterVerse. After news of a Godzilla series ravaged the internet and sparked hope that the MonsterVerse would survive, it was hard to predict what would be next for our favourite monsters following Godzilla vs Kong. However, it looks as though Legendary are pumped and ready for the next installment in their monstrous franchise.
The unnamed sequel to Godzilla vs Kong is set to start shooting in Queensland, Australia later this year. According to State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, the film will shoot in various locations across the Gold Coast and the southeast.
“The production is expected to inject more than double the $36.5 million that Godzilla Vs Kong brought to the state and is a welcome boost to our economy as we recover from the impacts of the global pandemic and southeast Queensland flooding events. These types of productions benefit our screen industry, deliver local jobs and provide a welcome boost to our small businesses and communities in and around our production sites” Palaszczuk added.
So, what is this mysterious film? Well, it’ll be the fifth installment in the franchise but the details are currently being kept well under wraps. Based on how Godzilla vs Kong ended, it definitely won’t be a rematch. With that in mind, it’s likely that this sequel will follow either Godzilla or Kong. Given the state of the Hollow Earth, there definitely appears to be more to explore in regards to Kong. However, Godzilla has always been a huge crowd pleaser, and with so many iconic enemies waiting for their chance to dethrone the king… The possibilites are endless.
According to the Screen Queensland report, the upcoming film will deliver an economic boost of A$79.2m which is roughly equal to $58.6m. In addition to the big boost, this sequel will create over 500 jobs for local members of the cast and crew, plus opportunities for 750 extras (How much is a plane ticket to Queensland?)
Of course, that is all we know. The good news being that we are receiving more from the MonsterVerse. So, all we have to do now is simply wait for more information. Which monster will this film be centred on? Godzilla, Kong, or perhaps a new member of the franchise? Let us know your thoughts in the comments. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as this exciting project develops.
