The MonsterVerse lives. After a few months of uncertainty where it appeared as though Godzilla vs Kong could be the last installment in the colossal franchise… We finally have some incredibly promising news. The huge monsters of the Legendary’s MonsterVerse, including Godzilla, are coming to the small-screen.
In a surprise announcement, Apple TV+ have partnered with Legendary to create an entirely original live-action show revolving around the monsters of the Hollow Earth and the mysterious organisation Monarch.
Not much is actually known about the series, but we do know that this spin-off will be executive produced by Sci-fi veteran Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise & Outcast) who will be teaming up with Hawkeye comic book writer Matt Fraction. In a statement, Apple also announced that the series is “following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real,” and will explore “one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.”
We originally assumed that this series would be set after the events of Godzilla vs Kong. Although, with the brief summary from Apple TV+, it’s actually hard to tell whether it will be a sequel or whether it will fit in between the events of Godzilla and King of the Monsters. There is roughly a 5 year time jump between those two movies. The events of Godzilla took place in San Francisco so this series could be looking at how Monarch discovered the other Titans following Godzilla’s arrival. This could limit Apple on the types of Titans they use. However, since Apple will be working with Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita of Toho Co. Ltd, we could be getting more iconic monsters. Let the speculation begin.
The announcement is still very fresh so we are currently dealing with very minimal information. For now, anyway. Are you excited to see more from Godzilla? Let us know your thoughts in the comments and be sure to stay tuned for any further updates.
