Review
Coming from the original arc where all hell broke loose in the once calm Ravinca there seems to be an uneasy feel to the new arc as there seems to be an awkward feeling of calm with something bubbling under the surface. Issue #12 sees the continuation of this new arc and we follow the story of the new trio of Planeswalkers that are currently trapped outside of Ravinca with the need of getting into the city again as Garruk in particular has unfinished business with a certain Tibalt and Davriel possibly the most powerful mages to set foot on the plane. Garruk and his fellow Planeswalkers are busy making plans to get back beyond the walls and into Ravinca unaware that preparations are also taking place on the other side that should the Planeswalkers be successful in getting back into Ravinca there will be one hell of a welcoming party awaiting them, this arc is about to get interesting.
From the first issue of Magic I have found that Jed Mackay has found the true feeling of the MTG world and brought the world to life in comic and kept the feeling of the original card game alive keeping traditional fans happy, his writing from the start has been full of gripping action with emotion and toil mixed in creating a perfect balance in the comic creating the ultimate experience for the reader. Jacques Salomon has gripped me with a unique illustration style using the fantasy lore of MTG and recreating a vast world that is full of action packed detail on every page, each page had me mesmerised bringing to life the very story I played for hours in my youth. Between the complete creative team they have created a comic world that has the potential to grown into a multiverse and expand to even bigger stories, this series has the potential to become iconic.
Verdict
A comic series that I have waited many years for, having played the card game for years in my youth I was waiting to be able to visually see what I once imagined, it is fantastic that such a talented creative team have taken the idea and turned it into a true heavyweight in the comics.
