So much Star Trek news to unpack this morning. Following the news that both Star Trek: Discovery and the brand new Strange New Worlds have been renewed for new seasons, Paramount+ has now confirmed when fans will be able to catch new episodes of Star Trek: Picard.
Fans had anticipated new episodes of Picard to begin airing in February. But the announcement that Discovery would take a mid season break, to return in Feb and a lack of news of the festive period left many thinking Picard would be delayed. Whilst those fears have been confirmed the delay is only a short one. It has now been confirmed that Picard will begin its second season on March 3, 2022 in the US.
With the show still slated to air on Prime Video in the UK we’re fully expecting an announcement that season 2 will premiere the following day, Friday, March 4.
Alongside the news on Picard, the studio also confirmed that new episodes of the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks will return in 2022. No exact date was given but we do have a timeframe of “summer”. This tracks with previous seasons which have begun airing new episodes in August.
The biggest Lower Decks news is the confirmation that the series has been renewed for a fourth season which will likely air in summer 2023. It’s been confirmed the fourth season will consist of a further ten episodes.
Star Trek: Picard Season 2 sees Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Terry Matalas, Michael Chabon, Doug Aarniokoski, Dylan Massin, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers; Aaron Baiers and Kirsten Beyer serve as co-executive producers.Akiva Goldsman and Terry Matalas serve as co-showrunners for Season 2.
Created by Rick & Morty writer Mike McHMahan, Star Trek: Lower Decks features the voices of Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells and Eugene Cordero as the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos.
