Our worst fears have been realised. It’s been confirmed that fans outside of the US and Canada will have an extended wait for the fourth season of Star Trek: Discovery. The season, which kicks off on Thursday in the US, will now premiere in 2022 across Europe.

The change in scheduling comes as the studio has finalised a last minute deal to transfer the show to Paramount+. As of midnight last night Discovery has been entirely removed from Netflix in international territories, ending the six-figure deal which has paid much of the series’ budget.

As per Deadline, the UK, Germany, Ireland, Austria and Switzerland will be among the first markets to stream Discovery on Paramount+. ViacomCBS has said that as part of an accelerated expansion, it anticipates being in about 45 markets within the next year or so – and, of course, a high-profile brand like Star Trek will lead that charge.

In Canada, Discovery will stay on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave under the long-standing deal with the northern broadcaster. Both Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Lower Decks remain under contract to stream on Amazon Prime Video outside of the US and Canada at the time of writing.

Here’s a look at all the action we’ll be waiting for with season 4:

Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, as Captain of the USS Discovery after her promotion in season 3. The series co-stars Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, David Ajala and Blu del Barrio.
