It has been a while since we have received news regarding Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the highly popular and beloved animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. Since the original show runners departed the series, a lot of people have been somewhat sceptical. However, today’s news should spark some excitement. Hawaii Five-O‘s Daniel Dae Kim has joined the upcoming show as the ruthless leader of the Fire Narion- Fire Lord Ozai. Fans of the show will also know him as Zuko’s cruel and powerful father.
The actor confirmed the news via Instagram with a brief clip of Mark Hamill’s Ozai and the caption “It’s gettin’ hot in here…”
Avid watchers of The Last Airbender may remember that Daniel Dae Kim is no stranger to the wonderful franchise. He voiced the Earthbender General Fong in the series and video game, as well as Asami Sato’s father Hiroshi in the spin-off series The Legend of Korra. To see him take on a main role is fantastic and we can’t wait to see what he does with the powerful Fire Lord.
It is interesting to see that Kim has joined as a regular especially when you remember that the Fire Lord didn’t appear fully until season three of the animated show. It looks as though the Netflix adaptation will be making some changes regarding the story.
Kim joins The Last Airbender alongside Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), and Dallas Liu (Zuko).
