COWBOY BEBOP Live Action Series Premiere Date Announced!

One of the most beloved and popular anime of all time, Cowboy Bebop was released in 1998 and became an instant classic. The series focused on the adventures of space cowboy with a sordid past Spike Spiegel, co-pilot of his ship (the Bebop) Jet Black and wanted criminal/co-bounty hunter Faye Valentine. Alongside them is Ein the corgi and child genius hacker Radical Edward.

Well, after some production delays, it looks like we finally have our first looks of Cowboy Bebop‘s live action adaptation which will debut globally on Netflix on November 19th! With a similar aesthetic to Firefly and following the genres of science-fiction, western and detective noir, it looks like we can expect a fair share of gun-slinging, martial arts and capturing all the space criminals that the heart desires! Even though it’s still early days, it looks like Netflix may have a decent anime adaptation on their hands, which have until now left much to be desired (especially after Netflix’s adaptation of Death Note in 2017…)

Spike Spiegel will be portrayed by Star Trek actor John Cho, Jet Black being portrayed by Marvel’s Luke Cage actor Mustafa Shakir and Jurassic World actress Daniella Pineda will be playing Faye Valentine.

We are also all eager to hear original composer Yoko Kanno’s jazz-inspired soundtrack, with her music providing the heart-grabbing and emotional anchor to the characters and original anime.
The series were also consulted on by original creator Shinichirō Watanabe, and is developed by André Nemec (Alias) and Jeff Pinkner (Fringe, Alias), and written by Christopher Yost (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian).

We also see below more stills released of the series, none of which seem to include Radical Edward which begs as to whether they have been cast, but so far the images look nothing short of cinematic! The first of which even shows us what looks like the iconic setting from episode 5 of the anime, Ballad of Fallen Angels, in which we see Spike Spiegel face off against the series antagonist and dark figure from his mystery past, Vicious.

We can only hope that this series lives up to the high expectations set by the original anime, and well… whatever happens, happens! See you, space cowboys!
